Slaughter Renovation and Outdoor Adventure Relocation

Slaughter Renovation Coming This Fall

A lot is happening at Slaughter this summer. We're renovating the training area and building a new climbing center.

Slaughter Renovation

As part of the University's ambitious Ivy Corridor project, IM-Rec Sports' Outdoor Adventure (Formerly Outdoor Recreation Center) will relocate this summer.

The beloved gas station was home for our bouldering wall, equipment rental and all-around social spot for adventurous Hoos since the '90s. We all have a lot of memories at that little gas station. There aren't many places on Grounds with that much character. However, the cramped space, lack of air conditioning and isolation from student housing presented real challenges to fulfill our mission to create first-class outdoor recreation for the University Community. So, we're excited for the future of this program and the possibilities ahead for Outdoor Adventure at Slaughter Recreation Center slated to open in Fall of 2018.

The Plan

  • Normal operations until its last day on May 1.
  • The Rental Center will temporarily relocate to the AFC and operate from May 23 until the new space at Slaughter Recreation Center opens.
  • Outdoor Adventure at Slaughter will include a new climbing center, equipment rental and home for adventurous Hoos.
  • The project is slated for completion in the Fall of 2018.

Slaughter Recreation Center Renovation Project

In an effort to better serve the University Community and support the University's development plans, IM-Rec Sports is renovating Slaughter Recreation Center.

Slaughter will be the home of IM-Rec Sports' new functional training facility as well as the new and expanded Outdoor Adventure. This renovation project will transition 3 squash and 2 racquetball courts into the new Climbing Center and Adventure Rental Center.

Slaughter Recreation Center will maintain normal operating hours during the renovation project.

Multipurpose rooms 1 and 2 will not be available starting May 2 until the building re-opens in the Fall.
