Closure Notice

The University has a great responsibility to its students, faculty and staff when considering the return to full operations. We are ready and eager to provide the UVA community with fitness and recreational opportunities once the University is able to return to comprehensive operations safely and effectively. We are privileged to support this University and we believe in its greater mission. We're all in this together! If you have questions, please reach out to covidinformation@virginia.edu.

When we initially open, we will start with the fitness area at the AFC and the pool at NGRC. The hours and experience will be modified to ensure safety for students, members and staff. We will announce opening details as soon as possible.

In the meantime, please try some virtual programs.

Class of 2024! Get oriented to on-Grounds recreation opportunities.

COVID-19 Updates

Are any Recreation Centers open?

No. In support of the University's response to COVID-19, IM-Rec Sports Recreation Centers are CLOSED. All instructional programming and intramural sports remain suspended indefinitely.

When will Recreation Centers re-open?

Recreation Centers will resume operating hours as soon as it is safe to do so, in accordance with the University’s current action plan (Novel Coronavirus page | Status Board). We will continue to monitor the situation and follow recommendations from public health officials. Updates will be given via our websiteemail, app (Apple or Android) and social media (FacebookTwitterInstagram).

What is the best way to check if the Recreation Centers are open right now?

Our website will have the most up to date information regarding operations. You can also access this via our app (Apple or Android).

Are any outdoor courts or fields open?

The walking path around The Park has re-opened.  Use of the space must be in compliance with the University’s current action plan (Novel Coronavirus page | Status Board).  All other field and courts remain closed until further notice in compliance with University and state guidance.

How can I get my belongings out of my locker?

Due to safety and health concerns for customers and staff, access to locker contents will be limited and evaluated on a case-by-case basis. Inquiries will be evaluated based upon urgency and unique expressed need. If you have unique circumstances for accessing locker contents, please email recsports@virginia.edu and a Facility Manager will make contact accordingly.

I work at the University and use payroll deduction for IM-Rec Sports fees. Will the University stop deducting those fees from my pay while I am working remotely and IM-Rec facilities are closed?

IM-Rec Sports membership fees will continue to be deducted on schedule. The University will not refund fees for recreation as a result of operational changes due to COVID-19. These fees cover fixed costs of these operations and enable us to continue to pay our employees. We will extend your membership based on the number of days that Rec Centers are unavailable, beginning March 18, for a maximum of two months.

Will I get a refund for my cancelled program?

Yes. You will receive a prorated credit based on the number of sessions completed. Programs that have not started, will be fully credited to your IM-Rec Sports account. Since we do not store credit card information, your money will be a credit on your IM-Rec Sports account. Once we’ve credited your account, we will reach out to you with refund options.
