The success of this plan is a shared responsibility among all of us to be informed and work together for the safety of our community. Please read carefully and help us implement this plan to remain open. Students must complete all of the Return to Grounds requirements by for continued access to IMRec facilities!

Updates

  • 9/25 - Because we are operating with highly modified protocols and procedures to ensure your safety, IM-Rec sponsored activities are included in the University's exemptions for instructional activity directly tied to an academic program or class, athletics and club sports. There are FUN things you can do, while doing your part to reduce the prevalence of COVID-19 in our community. See the following breakdown of what IM-Rec facilities are open and how to plug into some fun, safe activities. We're especially excited about the return of outdoor in-person competitive sports in October!

What's Open Now & Fun Things to Do

Aquatic & Fitness Center & Pool

  • The Aquatic & Fitness Center and Pool are open for students and members (unfortunately no youth or guests) with modified hours. The AFC cardio and weight machines do not require reservations for access; however, access to the weight room and pool do require a reservation.
    • Fitness Areas
      • Monday-Friday: 8:00am-1:30pm & 3:00-10:00pm
      • Saturday-Sunday: 10:00am-1:30pm & 3:00-10:00pm
        • Cardio, selectorized machines and weight machines available
        • AFC Weight room (benches, rigs and dumbbells) available with required pre-reservation:
        • Loose equipment (i.e.mats, basketballs, etc.), water fountains and lockers unavailable
    • Pool
      • Monday-Friday: 11:30am-12:30pm, 12:45-1:45pm, 5:45-6:45pm, 7:00-8:00pm
      • Saturday-Sunday: 10:00-11:00am, 11:15am-12:15pm, 12:30-1:30pm, 3:00-4:00pm, 4:15-5:15pm, 5:30-6:30pm, 6:45-7:45pm
        • Water Exercise by lane reservation, kickboards, pull buoys, aqua jogging belts and restrooms/changing rooms available from pool deck
        • Hot tub, sauna, water fountains, showers and lockers unavailable
      • Reserve an AFC Pool Lane.

North Grounds Recreation Center & Pool

  • The North Grounds Recreation Center and Pool are open for students and members (unfortunately no youth or guests) with modified hours. The pool requires a reservation.
    • Fitness Areas & Racquet Courts
      • Monday-Friday: 5:30-10:30am
        • Cardio, selectorized machines and weight machines available
        • Loose equipment (i.e.mats, basketballs, etc.), water fountains and lockers unavailable
    • Pool
      • Monday-Friday: 5:45-6:45am, 7:00-8:00am, 8:15-9:15am, 9:30-10:30am
        • Water Exercise by lane reservation, kickboards, pull buoys, aqua jogging belts and restrooms/changing rooms available from pool deck
        • Hot tub, sauna, water fountains, showers and lockers unavailable
      • Reserve a NGRC Pool Lane.

Climbing Center at SRC

  • Though Slaughter Recreation Center remains closed, we are able to open the Climbing Center

Outdoor Fields & Courts

  • Outdoor Fields and Courts are open for students and members (unfortunately no guests) with modified hours and required reservations.
  • The walking path at the Park is open for recreation that follows social distancing guidelines including gatherings of no more than 5 people.
  • Reserve an outdoor field or court.

Stay Informed

It is our intention to make as many healthy activities available without compromising the safety of students or staff. Our current plan is just the start. Having never experienced such a high cleaning standard, we are starting with what we know our team can handle, then expand. We will continuously evaluate our ability and make adjustments accordingly.

Accessing

Accessing AFC & NGRC Fitness and Reserving AFC Weight Room Time

  • To allow for proper social distancing and to ensure maximum safety, the AFC & NGRC Fitness areas will have limited capacity
    • We will be monitoring demand and availability closely and modifying this plan to maximize availability without compromising anyone's safety
    • After each open session, everyone will exit the building to allow staff to clean before the next open session
    • A reservation is required to visit the AFC weight room (6 person capacity / 30-Minute reservation period)
      • Reservations can be made up to 1 week in advance & close 15-minutes prior to the start of each block
      • There is a limit of 1 reservation per person per day for consideration to all students and members
      • Email our business office at recsports@virginia.edu if you need assistance with reservations
  • To access the AFC Fitness area, you will enter via the Whitehead Road doors and exit via the Alderman Road doors
  • To access the  NGRC Fitnes area, you will enter and exit via the Massie Road front doors

Reserving Your AFC & NGRC Pool Time

  • To allow for proper social distancing and to ensure maximum safety, the AFC Pool is limited to 15 person capacity & NGRC Pool is limited to 10 person capacity
    • We will be monitoring demand and availability closely and modifying this plan to maximize availability without compromising anyone's safety
    • After each reservation time, everyone will exit the building to allow staff to clean before the next time block
  • You may reserve your block online 
    • Reservations can be made up to 1 week in advance & close 15-minutes prior to the start of each block
    • There is a limit of 1 reservation per person per day for consideration to all students and members
    • Email our business office at recsports@virginia.edu if you need assistance with reservations
  • Locker Rooms & Family/Assisted Changing Rooms are available as changing spaces only; no showers or locker access.
  • To access the NGRC Pool, you will enter via the NGRC doors adjacent to the NGRC Parking Lot, and exit via the aquatic deck doors
  • To access the AFC Pool, you will enter via the AFC Welcome Desk at Whitehead Road, and exit via the aquatic deck doors

You will receive an email confirmation upon completing your reservation.

Cancel a Reservation

  • Log On to your account
  • Click on your profile to "View Account"
  • Click "Programs" then "Reservations"
  • Cancel any reservations you will not be using

Reserving Your Outdoor Field and Racquet Court Time

  • To allow for proper social distancing and to ensure maximum safety, we are opening up with reservable blocks of time
  • You may reserve your block online or via The SOURCE
    • Reservations can be made up to 1 week in advance
    • There is a limit of 1 reservation per person per day for consideration to all students and members

HOOS Health Check Required

Everyone in the UVA community must complete the daily HOOS Health Check before entering any IM-Rec Sports buildings.

If you don’t have NetBadge and can’t use the app, you can print the form and bring it with you, or we will have copies available for you at the welcome desk.

HOOS Health Check is designed to encourage personal responsibility through making individuals aware of their health and COVID-19 symptoms.

Our Extra Safety Measures

Cleaning & Sanitation

Keeping everyone safe is a shared responsibility and we will rely on everyone chipping in to clean the equipment before and after use.

Fitness equipment and high touch points will be sanitized and disinfected consistently throughout the day and after every session/reservation period by staff per CDC & UVA EHS guidelines. Fitness Wipes will be provided for students/members to wipe down equipment before and after each use.

Extra Sanitizer Stations

Additional hand sanitizers and fitness wipes are available throughout the fitness areas, pool deck, and outdoor venues.

Health Checks

Staff will be monitored for symptoms prior to each shift per University and CDC Guidelines. Students/Members are not permitted if they have or show symptoms of COVID-19.

Please stay home if you show any symptoms of COVID-19.  Students must complete all of the Return to Grounds requirements for access to IMRec facilities!

Personal Protective Equipment

Face masks are required while in the facility except while using cardio equipment. All staff will be wearing protective gloves and face masks at all time.

New Gym & Pool Etiquette

Face Masks

Face masks are required while in the facilities except while using cardio equipment and swimming. Read UVA's policy SEC-045 on Face Masks, Physical Distancing, Social Gatherings, and Enforcement.

No Drinking Fountains

Please bring your own water bottle as only the bottle fill portion of the water fountains will be open.

Touchless Entrance

There will be touchless entrance at the AFC Welcome Desk, NGRC Pool, SRC Climbing Center and Outdoor Venues. Please remember to bring your UVA/IM-REC Access ID or smartphone with the UVA IM-Rec App. 

Cardio & Strength Floor Etiquette

Wipe down equipment before and after use.

"Working In" on sets is not be permitted in order to permit 10-foot social distancing and sanitation of equipment.

Please give everyone plenty of space to exercise. Allow at least 6 feet of distance.

Limit Personal Belongings

Please limit the personal belongings you bring as the lockers will not be available.

  • The locker rooms, hot tubs, saunas, track, basketball courts and multi-purpose rooms 
  • Social areas (lobby tables & benches and furniture)
  • Towel service, locker access, water fountains, or individual day/rental Lockers
